This course deals with single and multiphase flows, basic concepts of heat transfer modeling and species transport, considering free and porous media.
These phenomena are ubiquitous in chemical engineering and electrochemical systems, where it is essential to specify the thermodynamic, thermal and transport properties of the species involved.
Students review the physical interfaces for single-phase, multiphase and porous-media flows in laminar and turbulent regimes, together with the theoretical foundations behind each interface.
The course also covers heat transfer in solids, fluids and radiation, as well as the transport of chemical species in dilute and concentrated cases, including reactive flows and porous media.
The course connects thermodynamic property definition, fluid-flow interfaces, heat-transfer modeling and chemical species transport within practical COMSOL workflows.
