Physics Builder

Spring term

Taught by Joel Hernández Wong

COMSOL Multiphysics has a wide range of physical interfaces in different areas of electromagnetics, structural mechanics, chemistry and fluid flow. However, the user also has the option of defining his own, customised physical interface that exactly meets the needs of his specific discipline. The Physics Builder is available for this purpose. With this tool, we can use our equations to build new physics interfaces, which will be available for inclusion in future multiphysics models or for sharing with colleagues.

The content of the course includes the description and general use of the Physics Builder. It is a graphical programming environment that allows the design of custom physics interfaces, using an interactive desktop and without coding. The Physics Builder desktop contains a tree representing the physical interface design project. This project can be used to define anything from a single individual physical interface to a complete COMSOL Multiphysics add-on product that includes a collection of physical interfaces.

With the Physics Builder it is possible to implement custom-designed physical interfaces within the overall COMSOL Multiphysics environment. We will discuss the complete workflow for the generation of new physical interfaces. It is very similar to the workflow for creating a multiphysics model, except that the result is a new physical user interface instead of a new simulation model.
