Jan-Philipp Weiss

Department of Computer Science and Mathematics

OTH Regensburg

Jan-Philipp holds a diploma in mathematics from the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg i.Br. / Germany and a PhD from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) / Germany.

Teaching

As a professor in Applied Mathematics in the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics at the OTH Regensburg, Jan-Philipp is giving lectures on partial differential equations, numerical methods, modeling and simulation, and basic lectures in the bachelor’s and master’s courses.

As a developer and global support lead at COMSOL AB, Jan-Philipp has given courses on advanced solver technologies for multiphysics simulation and finite element software.

Research

Before working for COMSOL AB in Sweden for almost ten years, Jan-Philipp was appointed junior professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He was heading a joint research group with the company Hewlett-Packard conducting research on numerical methods on emerging multicore and coprocessor technologies. At COMSOL he was part of the numerical analysis and high performance computing team and worked as a global support lead for solver technologies and HPC.

Numerical Simulation and COMSOL Multiphysics

As a developer at COMSOL AB, Jan-Philipp has for example been involved in the development of the domain decomposition solver and the fast Fourier transform solver. As a global support lead he was working on a wide range of multiphysics simulation problems in the academic and engineering context.
