Lluís Jofre Cruanyes

Department of Fluid Mechanics

Polytechnic University of Catalonia

PhD in Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University. Beatriz Galindo Research Professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in the Department of Fluid Mechanics.

Teaching

Professor Lluís Jofre Cruanyes teaches at the Department of Fluid Mechanics of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia at the School of Engineering of Barcelona East (EEBE), within the degrees of Mechanical Engineering and Energy.

Previous teaching experiences include the Jet Propulsion Engines Laboratory courses at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH, Sweden) and Computational Methods in Fluid Mechanics at Stanford University (USA). His teaching activity covers different topics related to Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Computational Engineering and Data Science.

Research

Professor Lluís Jofre Cruanyes’ research is framed within multiscale Fluid Mechanics, such as multiphase flows, multiphysics turbulence, thermofluid dynamics, interfacial hydrodynamics, and micro/nano fluids. Engineering applications of interest include energy and propulsion systems, biomedical solutions, and advanced industrial technologies.

The research methodology is based on the emerging paradigm of Predictive Science and Engineering, which combines experiments, theory and computational modeling, along with the uncertainties encountered in the different phases, to gain insight and make predictions in complex problems.

Numerical Simulation and COMSOL Multiphysics

Professor Lluís Jofre Cruanyes has extensive experience in the development and use of computational platforms and numerical simulations to study scientific problems and design/optimize advanced engineering systems in the field of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer.

Especially in large-scale multiphysics turbulence, in which he has won several international awards and projects to use the most powerful supercomputers worldwide, such as Summit, Titan and Mira (USA) and Marenostrum (Spain).
